I'm a relative Stata noob (2 to 3 years of regularly frequent use). I'm looking for recommendations for a programming (not just general use) book or books to purchase. I had a copy of Christopher Baum's book from the library but had to return it. Found it really useful. Stata is a general-purpose statistical software package created in by StataCorp. Most of its users work in research, especially in the fields of economics, sociology, political science, biomedicine, and e: Proprietary.

Textbook Examples Introductory Econometrics: A Modern Approach (1st and 2d eds.) by Jeffrey Wooldridge. The book also uses some multivariate calculus (partial derivatives) and linear algebra. I presume that the reader is familiar with Stata’s windowed interface and with the basics of data input, data transformation, and descriptive statistics. Readers should consult the appropriate Getting Started with Stata manual if review is needed. Mean-File Size: KB.

The unique combination of topics, intuitive introductions to methods, and detailed illustrations of Stata examples make this book an invaluable, hands-on addition to the library of anyone who uses microeconometric by: In Stata, macros are small data objects (often just a single word) held in mem-ory.6 The concept is similar to a “variable” in many other languages.

Stata as-signs some macros automatically and others can be assigned by the programmer. However the programmer can still read the ones Stata assigns Size: KB. Stata has two programming languages. One, known informally as “ado”, is the focus of this chapter.

It is based on Stata’s commands, and you can write scripts and programs to automate reproducible analyses and to add new features to Stata. Stata programming is not difficult since it mainly involves the use of Stata commands that you already use.

The trick to Stata programming is to use the appropriate commands in the right sequence. Of course, this is the trick to any kind of programming. There are two kinds of files that are used in Stata programming, do-files and ado-files.

This book illustrates the use of several data management techniques using Stata, from data cleaning, import and export, labeling and creating variables to combining datasets, in-depth use of egen command including _n and _N higlights, and programming.5/5(9).
